I"m looking for some PCI video cards. Less than $80, and fairly good performance. About Radeon 8500 level.

I've seen a few things about Radeon 9200SE cards, and I'm a little leary of getting them. I know the 9100 cards ar just revamped 8500's, so those are on my list to buy. What about the 5200's?

Let me put it this way. Right now we have integrated Intel Extreme graphics cards, and no AGP slots. The artists use Maya a lot. To put it simply much of anything will be better. But I dont want some POS either.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I went through the same thing with my GF's computer. I ended up just getting a 128mb 5200 to replace her 8mb onboard intel 810 video. It's far from fast but does a nice job in older games and such. Just get the cheapest newest PCI card you can because they're all gonna pretty much suck.

want some advice? buy a new motherboard it mite be worth it if u want something pretty good for about 6 months to a year?

I bought a PCI 9100 128MB at Tiger Diret for $50 with a mail-in rebate. Not sure if it is still valid.

My opinion is if you're going to spend money anyways.. dont' blow your money on a PCI card that can't perform anywhere NEAR agp.

I would
A). Get a newer motherboard that supports 8xAGP. (for future upgrading)
B)Buy a AGP card.
(if your looking to save cash altogether you can buy a cheaper agp card for now, but have the opportunity for a better card later.)

With your current motherboard, you are limited to PCI video, which blows. I wouldn't spend money adding a card to outdated motherboard.

just my 2 cents.

good luck.

Heres the issue though.

Thes machines are Dell's and still under warranty. We had no idead they didnt have AGP slots. The place on the PCB is there, just no slot. A real fucking PITA, lemme tell you.

I thin kwhat we'll end up doing is getting a PCI 9100 either 64MB or 128MB.

Thanks for the link creepcolony.
