I'm helping a friend upgrade his Dell 2350. He only has 3 PCI slots, no AGP, and wants to upgrade his video.

I'm looking at the ATi 9250 PCI card, and was wondering if there was a better card than this one out there?

His system is a P4 1.8. Maybe I can talk him into a better rig, but for now all he wants is better video for gaming.

I had a friend in a similar bind, put a FX5700LE in his Dell. Plays HL2 @ 1024x768 at med/low settings well enough. Suffers more form lack of system RAM, than vid card at this point I think.
Not sure where you are planning to buy, but 9250's I saw average $15-20 more than the 5700le. I kinda doubt the performance difference would be worth it. Newegg had a bunch (well... a few...) of PCI vid cards (all nVidia) last I checked.

 
Yeah. My other option is the MX420 which is basically a PCI GeForce 4 card.
 
I wouldn't get an MX420. I had one and it is complete junk. I would really look into saving up for a new rig rather then wasting money on a crappy video card.
 
Well that is my friends option. I told him I can get him into a new rig today, but he wants to wait. And the 9250 will simply be a current stopgap measure until then, whih might be sometime next year.
 
The 9250 is about the best thing worth putting in that machine - the P4 1.8 (Wilamette core) was a total dog.
