I'm in the market for a PCI SATA card to work around the missing lock on NF3-250s. I honestly don't know much about them or which brands are recommended...just looking for the least expensive card without sacrificing quality. It doesn't neccessarily need to be set up for an array as I'll only be putting one drive on it, so if there's a cheaper single-port card out there I haven't come across, that's all I need.

I have a Promise UltraTX2 IDE card (pata) Its really good, i've been using it for my data drives cuz its got 2 hd activity leds which i use with my antec performance plus. I also, use their SATA version of the TX2 which is built in to my mobo and its fantastic aswell.
You cant go wrong with promise, but there was another brand whos name i cant recall that were starting a bit of a stir in the sata add in card market. Perhalps someone else knows about them.

Couple of questions before I purchase a card....
There are less expensive brands on newegg such as Syba, Kingwin, Link Depot, and Vantec...but the only brand there I've heard of is the above mentioned Promise. Would it be in my best interest to spend a little more for the Promise card? Also, is it going to require me clearing the disk that I'm moving to the card, or is it a seamless transition?

if its your system disk, you should install the drivers before you move the disk over or else windows probably wont boot up.
As for the brand, i couldn't really tell ya. I'd go with promise, but thats me. Just google some reviews for the cheaper cards and see how well they stack up

I've got the Promise Sata150 TX2Plus, it has a PATA and 2 SATA ports on it.
I've had no problems with mine, been using 1 sata and a drive on the pata.
Not sure about moving the disk or installing Windows on it since my drives on that card are only storage. My system boots off of a Seagate SCSI drive on a 2940UW card, with the DVD-R on the mobo IDE port.
