I had a cheap PCI RAID card with two 36gb Raptors, and it was capped at 26MB/s. I was told this was because of the PCI bus, is that correct? I know the PCI bus can handle up to 133 MB/s, so not sure why its capped. I know its capped because in sisoft, the bandwidth line from the hard drive test is 26MB, straight across, no arc or anything.

I tried a motherboard with onboard RAID and it now peaks at 115, lowest is 85MB/s.

Does anyone know for sure that its the PCI bus thats the limiting factor? Will a simple PCIe 1x RAID card solve my issue? I dont like the motherboard with the onboard RAID so im not keeping it. TIA.

The PCI bus isn't limiting you, my bet would be the controller card was.

the PCI bandwidth of 133MB/s is shared with any other peripherals installed in other PCI slots.

Also, which PCI Raid card are u using? it could limit its performance.

The PCI bus bandwidth of 133MB/s is shared between all connected PCI peripherals. IE if you have a PCI sound card, raid card, and network card, their combined bandwidth is limited to 133 MB/s at any instance.

Also, sorry, A PCI express card would most likely improve this, though there are many other factors, I would say it could be significant.
