Hi,

I would like to purchase a graphics card for my Shuttle Zen (http://global.shuttle.com/Product/barebone/brb_OverView.asp?B_id=29) and Samsung SyncMaster 173P DVI capable LCD monitor(http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?prod_id=DI17PSQAQ).

I have only a PCI slot for graphics card and I would like to use the DVI conection to my monitor.

It's not a gaming system, but I need excellent 2D performance, especially for reading text, as I have to spend many hours per day in front of my monitor and now I'm experiencing eyestrain problems.

Which PCI graphics card do you recomend?

Do you recomend Matrox's Glyph anti-aliasing or the visual result is not better than ClearType? On my present setup ClearType is really ugly, but I've seen better results on some laptop computers.

A good PCI graphics card purchased today will be able to run also Windows Vista's demanding user interface?

Thank you for your attention!

Andras

Geforce ti4800 or geforce fx5700le, both pretty cheap, good for gaming and whatever you are planning to do.

some ppl say the 5500 is the same thing as the 5700le so yea...and i donty see much of a differnce between the 5500 and the 5200 only 20 mhz or so im sure u can overclock that.
ima get one of these for my lil sister

I believe for some reason Nvidia recently released the 6200 in PCI form. That would be my best guess as the 2D is reputed to be top class.

Will find the link and post it, I'm pretty sure I didn't dream it! :)

Sorry I must have dreamt it, can't find it anywhere.. was sure it was posted on these boards somewhere... my bad.

Thank you for the replyes!

The GeForce MX 6200 128MB PCI is too power hungry (minimum 300W) for my system (180W). This is not a gaming system, but a low power silent system.

What are your thoughts on Windows Vista on PCI cards?

And any experience with Cleartype vs Glyph AA?

just throw in a old max millineum for 2d apps...heck you could call some used computer dealers and im sure they would just give one to ya for free.

Thank you for the replies!

And any experience with font antialiasing with these cards? Cleartype on my builtin ATI is really hevay on my eyes...

That power requirement for the 6200 PCI doesn't mean much. I have a Dell with a 180w PSU (without an AGP slot) and it's used everything from Radeon 7K PCI's to FX 5600 PCI's (which also said they required a 300w PSU). With the small number of components you likely have in that Shuttle, your PSU will be more than adequate for a 6200 PCI. Don't short change your system if the 6200 PCI is what you really want.

Thank you for the good news! That's expanding my possibilities. Anyway, I'm in Italy and I cannot find sellers at the moment for the 6200 PCI.

There's no such thing as a geforce 4 ti series PCI card.
