pci fan effectiveness

i've recently purchased an vantec spectrum pci fan on newegg thats arriving in 5 days for my 71 degrees celcius 6800gt (on idle). I just curious as to what pci fans you guys think works best to cool video cards and how many degrees celcius does it go down by?
 
i got the antec one... didn't budge the temps one bit. thinking about cutting a hole into my case to put a 92mm fan blowing in right there to make the vid card have it's own closed air loop. keep everything else cooler too
 
I got one that sucks air off of the GPU. I thought that it would bring air into my case which would have been nice since I am already running a bit of negative pressure. Not much of a difference that I could notice. It makes no noise and was cheap so I cant complain. At least it can stirr the air in an otherwise stagnant end of my case.
 
get a zm80d-hp and mod it to fit your geforce... problem solved =P
 
I have that same vantec spectrum fan card blowing air onto my 9800xt. Without the fan card it would run about 65-66C idle and 71-74C load. After I put it in it would run 59-60C idle and 65-67C load. That is with it turned on to high.

I own the Vantec Spectrum card, so i can personally say that the average person will NOT be using this thing on max RPM 24/7.....its simply too irritating. I can tell you my 6800GT's temps...but I also have a 120mm aluminum fan blowing 85cfm straight on my card ATM. I never tried the card without the fancard.....but my temps are idle: 49C....load: 67C. I do remember that the fancard DID have a nice effect on my 9800XT's temps.....I'm just not sure exactly how much of my temps are due to the fancard itself. An added thing is the fact that the 120mm fan is feeding cool air TOO the fancard...further increasing its effectiveness.....so I guess I'm not a very good reference.

Hell....it looks kick ass in my Lian-Li at the very least....matches my blue lighting very well....and the 6800GT is long enough that it acts as a barrier and keeps all the light from the fancard BELOW the video card. :cool:
 
I had one of those vantec spectrum double fan pci cards as well, looked really nice. I placed it a couple slots under my 6800 ultra and noticed it did absolutely nothing for my video card temps at idle or load. The only noticeable things were: more noise from my case, more pretty blue lights and less available 12v power from my Enermax 550, meaning less juice for the power hungry 6800 ultra, which started to complain about "not enough power" and would down-clock itself if I set the pci card fan to high.

So I gave it to a friend with a 9800 pro, works great for him and his card though.

I think I had enough air movement in the case that the pci card fan really made no difference for me. I already had a side cover fan blowing like 75cfm on the video card, so I was reaching the point of diminishing (or no) returns.

That's almost EXACTLY how it is for me right now with my 6800GT....I've got an 85cfm 120mm fan blowing right on the card.....and I see very little, if any difference from having it hooked up.....I've just got it turned down all the way so i have it sit there for looks. It'll serve a little more use after I get the cooling mods for my 6800GT finished....as I'll be using individual ramsinks for the memory, and the fancard will provide some more direct airflow for the ramsinks. The cool thing is that since the 120mm fan isn't the quietest thing in the world I can turn the Fancard all the way up to about 1/2 or 2/3 speed without being able to hear it over the 120mm. ;) At full speed the Fancard is EASILY the loudest thing in my case....but even with my more suseptable 9800XT.....there would only be about a 1-2C difference between half and full speed....so its kinda useless. ;)
