pci expres...is supposedly to replace agp slots. When can i see this released in mobos? And is it that amd's version of pci express "hyper transport"?

coming out in april(i think)

the bandwidth you gain from it will give an infinitesimal gain in performance but the GPUs that you put on the thing are going to be blazingly fast

wthell is the difference between hypertransport and pci express?? someone please explain to me, a detailed difference or comparison....

From what I understand, PCI-express is a link between the NB and PCI components.

Hypertransport is the link from the NB to CPU when dealing with AMD line of CPUs.

(ok, not the most detailed description, but hey... :) )

hypertransport is like the AMD version of Intel's hyper threading, or sort of having a virtual 2nd processor, for multitasking and such.

PCI express is the new PCI slot standard that well... very fast, and will do away with AGP when it comes out.

Hypertransport is nothing at all like hyper-threading.

HyperTransport technology is a high-speed, low latency, point-to-point link designed to increase the communication speed between integrated circuits in computers, servers, embedded systems, and networking and telecommunications equipment up to 48 times faster than some existing technologies.

Hypertransport is NOT hyper threading, and is nowhere close to having a 2nd virtual CPU. Right now, we see Hypertransport as an extremely high bandwidth link between the north and south bridges of nForce boards, and also as a link from AMD 64 bit cpus to other points in your system. It does increase performance, or so they say, but it is not exactly like having a 2nd processor. Triolent's post got most of that down..the links cover it in detail. There is something about one connection being a serial connection and the other being a parallel one, but I'm not sure which is which.

PCI-Express is definitely more closely related to serial than HyperTransporting. :) I learned SOMETHING from the AMD Tech Tour! :)
