PCI-express power cable not plugged in

Alert! - Newbie question

I got my new rig up and running now, but at first when I was putting it all together I forgot to plug the pci-express power cable into my new 7800gt (did not notice it at first). Would this have any effect on the card? I ask this because i'm a bit worried that I might have destroyed something. Or would it just not work if you did not plug the cable in?

Hope someone can help me out!

No, you mobo should of gave you a beep code you did nothing wrong with your computer.
 
my motherboard did not even beep at me, it wasnt until I installed the NVidia drivers that the nvidia drivers said that the card was underpowered and it adjusted the speeds or something for that and that I should plug in the extra power cord.You are fine.
 
Mostly when You forget to plug in extra power PC boot's normaly but then You will get a message that You forgot to plug in extra powe and that You can't run 3D.

Nothing is damaged.

When I forgot to plug in the four pin power to my agp XFX 6800nu the thing literally SCREAMED at me. The highest pitched, non stop beep code ever. Plugged it in and all was fine.

My computer actually did blow up last night... literally popping/cracking/sparking and lightning bolts. Fortunately it was just my power supply. It all happened wihle it was in standby. Weirdest thing ever, it was also terrible not knowing if all my other hardware was fried, too, until I got a friends PSU to test it out. Whew...

But you have nothing to worry about - my PSU problem wasn't at all related to my GPU.
