okay first of all im nto a noobie to this kind of thing btu i never really looked into PCI-E. At first i was under the impression that PCI-E was the same thing as a PCI slot but differen which would require me to buy all new PCI cards(of which i have none), but now i am sort of under a different improssion that PCI-E is for vid cards and is basically an AGP with a different plug and much higher/better busses?

which is it guys i know you can help meh.
 
it's pretty much a replacement for both AGP and PCI as we know it. the 16x slots will handle graphics cards, while the 1x slots will handle most everything else, but don't look for pci-e to be widely used until atleast next year.
 
There will also be a 4x and an 8x slot. I think those are for wider and wider ethernets. 4x is probably for gigabit, and 8x for 10gigabit?
