i was wondering what the diffrence is between these two

obviously x16 is faster. is that the one for the video card?

are there pci-e x1 video cards then?

thanks in advnace

no, think of a PCI-E 1x slot as a replacment for regular PCI slots.

PCI-E 16x is a replacment for AGP.

The idea being to have one single BUS (PCI-E) to replace both PCI and AGP.

1x PCI-E slots are going to be the workhorse slots for things like soundcards.

There will be some 4x PCI-E cards most likely, probably high end RAID cards and stuff like next generation ethernet (10gbe over copper?).

PCI-E 16X is made for graphic cards, although matrox just came out with a G550 PCI-E 1X card, so you can run 4 monitors with a normal non-sli motherboard
