PCI-E Not addressing power issues?

I think there is a new spec for boards that has a connector that is smaller but carries 2x the power of molex connectors directly from the PS.

Currently there is an adapter that takes 2 normal molex plugs to give you that 6 pin plug.

It's easier (and cheaper) to draw power directly from the PSU than it is to route the power through the Mobo and PICe socket. So instead of making a socket that has say a 100 W max and costs more, and having a lot of ppls not using that much power to justify the need, they made a cheaper socket and defined a new PSU line standard.. sorta like when p4's 1st came out, now every PSU has a p4 rail. I don't know what the max power a vid card can get from the 75W from the PCIe plus the 6 pin connector, but I'm sure it's more than what they could of done for the same cost and routing that power through the mobo and socket.
 
an outside connection from the power supply is the easiest way to stay up with how much power video cards need. i think the new 6 pin power connector is a better idea than just supplying even more power through the motherboard.
 
The last video card I saw that was supposed to have it was the unrelease V5 6000..or was it the 3dfx Rampage? Either way, it never hit retail shelves.
