I've been resisting the urge to put one in my test system:

Intel P4 630 (3.0GHz, 2MB L2) EM64T CPU SKT775
Asus P5GL-MX PCI-e
1GB (2x512) Corsair VS in Dual Channel
Hitachi 80GB SATA HDD
16X DL DVD+RW
Fortron AX450-PN 450w PSU

I'm using onboard video for now (yuck)...but my main plan has been to keep the slot open for testing PCI-e cards when necessary...but it's killing me not to have decent graphics.

Anyway, I've been looking at either:

6600GT
X800GT
X800GTO

But I'm thinking, for only $30-40 more, I can get a vanilla 256MB 6800 PCI-e...I love my AGP version and I'm sure it would smoke any of the 3 I've been considering above.

Any suggestions?

Why would you choose onboard video over PCI-e? I'd say get the vanilla 6800
