I'm running an MSI P35 Neo2-FR, as I can tell it's PCI E 1.0 but am I able to get a 2.0 vid card and have it work?

Yup, it will run, it will just may be bottlenecked depending on what rez you play at and what card you get. 9800gx2 or faster is bottlenecked, at least at 1920x1200. That's from my own personal experience and testing.

I game at 1920x1200 and I have both a GTX280 and a DFI LP UT P35 motherboard which is NOT PCI-E 2.0

Am I being bottlenecked by this config?

yes. i had a gx2 on an abit ip35-e (pci-e 1.0) and switched to the board in my config. when you are gaming at 1920x1200, it's a big difference.

i like to bench with crysis. with 1920x1200 all settings high, very high shaders, my gx2 could push out 31 fps. when i overclocked it, that did not change at all. when i moved to the new board, the same bench would give my 32fps, but if i oc'ed, it would push out 39fps. that was impossible on the previous board.

i do not have an example on my gtx 280, b/c that came after the abit board was gone. however, my gtx 280 is faster so..... seems simple enough to me.
