PCB Soldering Question

I want to get rid of the yellow and red wiring running from my Gentle Typhoons. I've got the 22AWG black stranded to do it but looking closely you can see the solder points where the undesirable colored wires contact a PCB. I want to know if I can just hold the soldering iron to that point until the contact becomes loose than replace with the desired color, sleeve and whatever else.


There's also a roll of blue tape just to the side which I was planning on using to mask and then use vinyl dye for the wires. I'd rather the soldering method but I'm not sure it works. So, hence, my question...

EDIT: problem- I was able to remove the ring being used as a retention bracket. I kept a magnet close by to catch it should it fly. I think I damaged internal components of the fan because now the fan only stutters forward and back on power up. Anything i could do to repair this? Maybe discharge the magnetic attraction somehow??

Yeah, you can just desolder the wires from the PCB itself without any harm. I've done it plenty of times.

Did you damage a winding?
 
I think that's possible. It seems as though the fan is attempting to spin the wrong way but something kicks in every time it tries to spin up. Is there any way to fix said wingding?
 
Thanks guys I was able to do everything just like you said. Have done several so far, and each time I thought "those two solder points are definitely touching" stuff has still worked. Here are some pics:



 
haha at first it looked like you electrical taped the fan blades, I was about to yell ghetto mod up in here!
