I'd like to hear anyones experiance with PC4200 & 4400 ram.
Anyone have success or horror stories to tell?

I've used OCZ PC4200 and Corsair TwinX XMS4400, no horror stories, at 2.8v the PC4200 did a max of about 270MHz at 3-4-4-8 latencies, the TwinX XMS4400 maxed out at 280MHz at 3-4-4-8.

By maxed out I mean the highest it could run Memtest x86+ without producing errors after a few hours.

My PC4200 gives memtest errors past 264 MHz, I'll probably RMA it eventually as that's slightly below spec.

What ratio, 1:1?

Im looking at the Geil pc4200 ultra plat as I have heard some serious OC'ing at 1:1. Supposed to be the best for 1:1 action!

hmmm, not likely that ddr2 will be any cheaper. Let's see, new technology, new production runs, no - I don't see it being any cheaper. At least not in modules that will be readily overclockable.
The Geil ram looks attractive- price wise, but unsure of it. Why such a price disparity? there's a hundred dollors between the OCZ 4200EL and the Geil golden dragon pc4200. It makes you wonder why?

and you actually think that ddr2 will really be that much higher than the top of the line ddr1? call me crazy but i dont see that happening

i will pay a little bit more to get the newer technology with lower power consumption and less heat exhaustion over overclocked pc3200

thank you

If you are thinking about PC4000+ then DDR2 will probably be at par pricewise.

Yup, DDR2 will run cooler and faster... So start thinking about a new mobo, but watch the latencies of the new DDR2, they may be a little high and too slow for things like gaming apps right out of the gate.

Personally though, I like OCZ PC3200 Rev 2 Cas2 copper. Its really inexpensive, and runs Dual channel happily at Cas 2.5-3-3-7-1T to 448Mhz (almost PC 3700) At Cas 3-4-4-8 it will almost get to PC4000 speeds.
