Will this ram run stable in 5:4 on a Pentium 4 machine? Just 250mhz bus and 200mhz ram. Leaving the timings at 2-3-2-6 or whatever they are. Would it be stable?
I've got PC3200 HyperX on a 2.4C rig, running em at 5:4 on 255MHz FSB at 2-2-2-6. Yeah, it's stable in Prime95, I tested up to 8 hours and decided that was good enough for me, lol.
Newer HyperX need to run 2-3-2-6 if I'm not mistaken since instead of using BH-5 chips, they use either CH-5 or CH-6 chips. Only the older batches made it with BH-5.
I can confirm that the newer chips (2x512 PC3200) can't do 2-2-2 on my Abit AI7. Make sure that you order the 3200A, not the 3200, as the EPROM is programmed 2-3-2 (correctly for Intel i865/875, not 2-2-2 as the 3200 chips (programmed for AMD)- otherwise you'll need to go into the BIOS immediately and change this to 2-3-2-6.
I don't like this RAM in the 2x512MB configuration for OCing. On that AI7, it's not stable above 210 MHz. Running 250 with a 5:4 works for me with a 2.4C. I've got another machine with 2x256 that I'll try soon, which should yield better results.
