I am/was buidling an new computer for my brother and it would not post. Just gave me a long steady beep. We tested the ram and video card and everything in other systems, different combos of ram, etc. Everything seemed to point to a dead CPU, so after much anguish we got a new chip, actually upgraded from a FX51 to a FX53. Chip arrived today, I post test it, same stuff.

Any ideas? Is it the motherboard? What else is left to test?

ASUS SK8N NVIDIA nForce3 Pro 150 Mainboard
AMD Athlon 64 FX53
(4) Kingston 512MB DDR 400 sticks (KVR400X64C3AK2/1G)
eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GT
Antec 550W

Any beeps or anything?

I Guess the next thing to try is to see if any of those sticks of RAM are bad

I'd betcha 5 bucks that your powersupply is the culpret. I just had a similar issue with an Antec Tru550w, rated plenty high for my system in my sig, that wouldnt power on correctly. P/S works just fine in XP based systems. Try and get another p/s and see.

Figured it out I think, these chips need registered memory, our sticks aren't. Just gotta find/buy some and try it out.
