so i added a few new things to my pc this christmas. 400r, 8 gb of ram, h100, corsair 650 psu. so i put it all together and it wont post. when i connect the power cord to the power supply it powers on for a second, and the cpu_led turns red, then the dram_led turns red, cpu_led turns red, then the dram_led turns red again and powers off. i disconnected all hdds, drives and fan (other then the h100 fans) and removed all but one 4gb dimm of ram. the system still does the same thing. reseated the cpu, still does the same thing. any ideas?

Well I took everything out of the case and the oc posted fine. So this leads me to believe that there is some grounding issue with the case. Anyone have this case? Should I try different mb mounts?

Look for any loose screws, wires, cables, standoffs, washers, etc.

Just take it slow and easy with a minimal install and try to boot between each component addition. That way, you'll have some clue as to what's causing a problem.

ive figured out the problem. it is the power switch on the case.

i did all this testing out of the case and it was booting up fine. put everything back in the case and it boots up fine. connect the power switch and the pc turns on for a few seconds and turns off. right now i and running the system with the reset button as the power switch and the power switch not connected. time to rma this piece of shit!!!

about four hours of my life wasted!!! corsair is on my not to buy list....

That's just one of the reasons to do a minimal install outside the case using the case connectors. Case switches and wiring are sometimes bad. You caused yourself the stress by attempting to do everything in one shot which gave you no clues to the problem you experienced. Corsair will make it right. Are you really going to blame all your frustrations on a case switch?

yeah i am. that is something that i expect to work. i have never tested a case before setting it up. i guess from now on ill test the case before using it.

Except, next time it'll be a stick of ram. I'm saying that if you take each build a step at a time, attempting to boot after each step, you'll save yourself a lot of frustration. Enjoy your new build.

I had a Corsair power switch go bad on a case and emailed them and the quickly sent me a replacement front panel, no questions asked. Almost any other manufacturer will tell you to get f..ked.

So go ahead get a new case from an manufacturer with a pain in the ass rma service, that's your choice.

Something else to consider for the future, you can't always depend on the cable labels indicating which way to plug them in and some MB's allow you to reverse them. Always check for the embossed triangle on the cable indicating pin one.

All companies will have some kind of hardware failure or other at one point or another. It's impossible to have a 100% reliable track record, even for over the top companies that do "individual quality assurance checks" on all parts before shipping them out. Hell, I had Alienware ship me a god damned screwdriver INSIDE a prebuilt system that cost $2300 that had four separate people sign off on it's quality.

The whole point is what the company does about it afterwards. A good company like Corsair will immediately ship you a new part, no hassle no charge no questions asked. A shitty one will either bounce you between departments for hours if not days, charge you shipping/restocking fees, or have you fill out some 2 page long RMA form.

I'd suggest you don't just completely toss Corsair on it's ass for this. You just had the bad luck fo the draw, but they'll fix it and probably send you a new case no charge.

Lol this reminds me of the time I replaced my motherboard over a stuck closed reset button. We live and learn.
