When I had my gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H my PC would fully sleep, all the fans and components would turn off and when I hit a key or moved the mouse it would wake up like normal.

Now with my MSI 880GM-E41 the video card and fans stay on. As far as I can tell nothing really turns off at all, just the monitor. All the components are the same except for the mobo and the windows install is also the same. I've installed the mobo drivers from msi as well.

edit: From listening it seems only the HDD turns off.

edit: switched to S3 mode in bios. It fully sleeps now, but takes a good 30-40s to do so. And takes about 20-30s to wake up. Much slower than my gigabyte mobo. Is there any way to speed this up? Also I cant wake it up via keyboard/mouse, only power button.

set S3 to wake on keyboard/mouse or wake on usb in BIOS. Mine always defaults to that whenever I clear CMOS.

I changed to S3 and to wake up on keyboard/mouse. My keyboard has a backlight so when I hit a key it flashes for a second then nothing. Not that big of a deal though, power button might be a bit more preferable when I think about it. But it still takes forever to sleep compared to my gigabyte mobo.

have you tested the latest bios on the GIgabyte website Bios F7 or F8b?
Maybe this can help.

but I am talking about the MSI board I have now. I used to have a gigabyte, and it was updated to the latest bios.

I guess I should update the MSI bios, but their method is way more annoying than gigabyte's

Do you happen to know what sleep mode was being used on your gigabyte motherboard? Was it also S3?

Gigabyte mobo is set S3 by default, I don't know MSI.
But most probably the bios update can solve the problem on your MSI borad.
