Hi all,

Started up my sisters PC this morning and nothing happened! Well almost.

Power supply comes on then nothing. No bleeps no screen content.

Checked all the wiring and connections. All ok.

Does this mean her Motherboard is kaput?

Apparently all working yesterday morning ok . Nothing installed since then

Process of elimination. Take out everything except the essentials. Try one stick of ram at a time. Add things back one at time and try booting up. Once you add something that prevents it from booting you have found your problem. It could be the MB, but try the other things first.

I just had this happen to me. I built a new computer and it worked for about a week, then one morning I turned it on and it immediatley went to a black screen and stayed on. I took it to my local computer shop, and they said it was most likely my video card or sound card keeping it from booting. Took it home, tried to turn it on, and for lack of a better term, it exploded. Popped, burn smell. Power supply fried everything in my case except sound card and hard drive, ram is debatable. I suggest trying a new power supply and video card.

it exploded

That sucks...

OP... before condemning your psu you should check the voltages and make sure they are where they should be... And a dead video/sound card can definitely create symptoms similar to what your experiencing..

There you have it. There are a number of things that could prevent you from being able to POST, you just have to try one thing at a time until you figure out what the problem is. If you don't have spare parts lying around to test with you'll have to go to a friend or local computer shop to swap stuff through and find your problem.
