I am trying to add a second card to my PC so I can have 3 monitors. only 1 will be used for gaming, but I likle having the realestate for web design and such. sobasically when I put int he second PCI video card ( I have tied 2 Matrox G450's and 1 older ATI rage card) the PC will not boot. It doesn't even post. the fans come on, but I get nothing.

My system profile...

ECS 848p
P4 3.2
1gb PC2100 DDR
BFG 6800OC
Lite-On DVD-RW
Lite-On DVD-ROM
40gb Maxtor IDE drive
200gb WD IDE drive
200gb WD SATA drive
200gb WD SATA drive
400 watt ULTRA PSU

Any ideas?

You have a lot of optical drives and hard drives and your power supply is not of a good brand.

Remember kids, it does not how many watts your crap power supply has, it is still crap.

unplug all your hard drives from the power supply and then try it to see if it boots

wow. lots of drives there,,,, id consider a nice antec 500 or above powersupply for you...

i have a thermaltake 480 watt
120 gig IDE
160 gig Serial ata
80 gig IDE
and 2 cd drives
6800 Gt and athlon 3500..

powersupply gets quite toasty when this computer is doing lots of stuff

i would check bios settings...and yes you have mad Storage on your comp and your PSU is choking even with my WD 120 and my Seagate 200gb my 430w is pushing some heat...is it me or is all antec PSUs push out alot of heat..not saying they are ba..they are the best PSU there is!

yeah, the PSU was my first suspect, that's why I listed the drievs and PSU there. I will try to disconnect the devices and see how it goes. I am getting ready to move them anyway. building a didicated media server. all the fans to cool this crap is getting too noisy.

thinking about this one

Some older PCI cards have a jumper on them, and if they aren't to be the primary card, you have to change the jumper setting. I had this problem with an Imagine 128, and a Voodoo Banshee.
