About a month ago my PC didn't boot. I changed the power supply and it booted again, however I lost a hard drive. Today, I turned on my computer and it doesn't boot. It struggles through the boot up tests and doesn't go any further. I unplugged the hard drives and noticed the the cd-rom drive wasn't being powered.

Next, I tried taking out the 3/4 sticks of RAM and noticed the cd-rom drive was being accessed and I could open the drive. However, which sticks of RAM and which slots they worked in seemed random. If I take out all the ram the computer won't display anything and beep over and over but not sure if this is normal behavior..

Is the motherboard going bad? Dying ram?

Have you tried 1 stick per slot...then eliminated each stick of ram based on the 1st ram slot, then each stick based on the 2nd and progressive ram slots?

I would do the above and then move from there...just a suggestion...:)

any beeping on memory?

remove all memory and try a stick at a time. remove 3rd party vga and use onboard if u have it. take out extra perephs too hdd, fdd, dvd burner+ if u dont need it atm then dont use it.

then process of elimination

do u have a digital voltage meter? test the rails/ psu.

also flush the power out of mobo. unhoook. keep psu switch on, mash the power button. works on some, and laptops lol

that is normal behavior, the system won't post without RAM installed, you won't even be able to get to the bios...
