I don't know if this type of device really exists yet in a polished form, but I'll ask you guys about it.
What I want is a box that can sit in my component rack next to my DVD player, receiver, STB, etc, and play music and videos from a shared folder or some such. It can connect via ethernet or 802.11g.
Ideally, this box will utilize some form of HD output, such as component or HDMI. It will include visualizations for audio playback. It will support most video formats including DivX, Xvid, etc., including high resolution DivX (1280x720/720p for instance). This unit will also be controlled via remote.
The main use for this device, for me, would be to watch episodes of TV shows, some in HD, and play music. I can do this from my PC, but I really don't want to deal with actually using the PC to control everything.
I understand that Apple's iTV will be something like this, and Sling maybe has something like this coming out, but what other options are there/will there be?
