PC speakers with toslink input?

so you want speakers with a built in DAC? i'm not sure that exists and if it did, it probably wouldn't be any better than motherboard integrated sound.

may i ask, why?
 
it does not need DAC. just a toslionk input

i jus want less cables on the table when i hook my laptop thru external sound card
 
like zepher implied, toslink is a digital signal. it has to be converted to analog for the speakers to play it. this is typically done by either the sound card or a receiver. the purpose of toslink is, basically, to bypass the sound card's processing and let your receiver do the processing.

a 3.5mm stereo cable isn't really any bigger than a toslink cable..?
 
Toslink is digital.

Logitech has some various 5.1 PC speaker systems that'll take toslink, I don't know of any better on the quality sale with a DAC.
 
any time you see the terms optical, digital or S/PDIF you're dealing with a digital signal that will need to be converted :)
 
Cool.... i gained some knowledge. now that i know what search terms to use i have found some promising leads. The only problem is none are 2.1 all 5.1 and $200+
