Hmm, dunno if I should've posted that in "Software"...

Since some days, some Warning/Alert msg from Windows beeps only in my PC speaker. Otherwise, all sounds come from my regular speakers. I tried and reseted all sounds in Sounds & Multimedia from my control panel... The sound files aren't corrupted, I can hear the sounds when I press "Play" from the S&M panel...

Using Windows 2000 by the way.

Any way to troubleshoot this???

disconnect the speaker from the mobo ?

check bios settings ?

Thats wierd I have the same problem only with win xp and messanger. Every time I get an im from somebody the system speaker beeps . I still cant figure out how to change it...

Simple, just unplug the pc speaker from the motherboard... done.

Of course  . But that's half of the trouble, Windows doesn't beep then. :p

In WixXP go to Sounds and Audio Devices from the control panel. In the list of sounds for each even either select no sound for that event or select a different sound. The speaker usually beeps when a wav file is set for an event but that wav file can not be found.

yeah, just discconect the pc speaker, did on mine , and still works like a charm.:)

what motherboard, and does the sound work for everything else even when its beeping on errors? windows only does that when it doesnt detect a soundcard and it has the sounds enabled. i would just unplug it and disable the error sounds because to me, its annoying.

I have the same problem, I haven't disconnected my speaker yet but will soon. What's weird is that I couldn't find anything about it in bios (mobo in sig) and in win2k I have all sounds disabled. But I get the beep all the time, in both the pc speaker AND through my headphones. It happens when I empty my recycle bin, when i'm in the middle of playing games. Makes no sense and is completely annoying!

Man my system beeps when I hold too many keys down during gaming sessions. Make my wife irate after a while. I think it is a keyboard issue not a system issue. Sucks still.

Well, some update happened while the forum was down. The frikkin' speaker went back to "normal" beeping. :D Yay.

But. Some day, my 2500+ @ 3200+ went unstable, prob'ly due to "hot" weather (CPU was at 56 celcius  Or maybe CPU voltage wasn't high enough, but I ran with these same settings for 1 month or so before... Only thing different that day was the temp.). BF1942 kept crashing to the desktop. Not having the best cooler around (SilentBoost), I went back to default settings. After saving the BIOS setup, darn machine would'nt reboot. HD and Pwer LEDs were in steady ON mode, fans were turning, etc, but screen was blank. I had to shut it down, and restart it with the power switch. Now, it rebooted... Kinda normally, at first... And then:

I had a "NTLDR missing, press any key to restart" error msg just before the OS (Win2K) began to load. But... I just have to press "any" key and the darn thing keeps on booting like normal. And, the beeping issue came back and is present since then. So now, each time I boot/reboot, I have to press any key... I've looked at this problem on Google, of course, but haven't found any thing in common with my problem.

Well, I'll be formatting soon, and this time, I'll keep a system back-up/image, that's for sure!
