PC Running Very Slow

Hi

before this computer I had a Intel P4 1.8GHz with about 1 GB of ram. iv now got a Intel P4 2.8GHz which is not just a jump up in speed but also has Hyper-Threading and I must say I have not noticed any speed difference what so ever. its running very slow iv done a full system scan with all the latest updates, also done a spy ware scan and it still running slow. When I click on my computer icon on my desktop it takes like 6 sec to open it,on my old pc it was stray away and that was a slower CPU. so I really don't understand what it could be because I thought for sure I would see a big difference in speed and I don’t. The only 1 thing different with this pc and my old 1 is this one only has 512mb ram the other one had 1GB, but I can’t see that making the system as slow as it is. iv also enabled Hyper-Threading in the bios.

Thanks for any help.

it sounds like you could use a reformat, there is no reason that that should be happening. Also HT is not utilized, so that will not particularly help, but the increase in speed a double the memory should.
