Symptoms:

Computer seems to work fine in 16 bit mode at first, but after a little while, I can't open alot of programs (Search For Files or Folders for example). I can load data off of CDs when I first boot up, but after a while, it gives me errors.

Also, when I tried reformatting and installing Windows, it kept giving me errors during the install. I would "Retry" until the file finally got copied, but a few files had to be skipped because they just wouldn't copy. It did this on both of my hard drives. Could this be a problem with my IDE controller? Or a RAM problem? I've replaced my power supply and my video card. Here's my setup...

Asus A7N8x Deluxe mobo
AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton CPU
2x Corsair XMS PC3200 512MB RAM sticks
80 Gig Western Digital HD
20 Gig Western Digital HD
ATI Radeon 9200 Vid Card
Cendyne 52x CDR
DVD Player
Windows 2000 Pro

This problem happened after I went out of town for a week and came back. I hadn't made any changes or anything, these problems just began when I came home to my computer.

When I run the computer normally (not in 16 bit mode) the computer just freezes after a few minutes of use. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much!
