Ok, had this machine for over a year now then suddenly the other day it has started randomly locking up for no reason at all. No new software installed, nor hardware. No drivers updates, etc. Ran various virus/trojan/spyware scans and nothing came up. Im abit stumped as to what could be causing my problem. Heres how I found out about it.
Came home one night from work and my computer was just beeping like crazy and was at the Windows XP Loading screen. I instantly think power went dimmed enough to cause my PC to reboot but not to totally shutdown (don't have an UPS). No big deal.. reset the machine all is well, or so I thought. Wake up after about 8 hours of sleep and its doing it again. Machine only have my TV card software running. Nothing else.
So then I go on to thinking its virus related. So I run all the scans, etc and come up with nadda. Really confused at this point. So I say screw it. Haven't reformed in like 9 months. Might as well do it. Went ahead and reformatted. Problem came back. Has to be a hardware problem right? What I thought.
Pulled one PCI card at a time. First my TV card, then my sound card, then my NIC. Still doing it. Ran Memtest 86, no errors. Still doing it. So I'm down to thinking its my processor, motherboard, or video card. Have no way of testing video since I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe.. doesn't have onboard video.
With all of that out of the way. Anyone have any idea as to what I should try next? I don't wanna go out and start buying parts when I don't even know if they are going to solve the problem....
Thanks
Oh, btw. Says my Barton 2500+ is running at 3200+.. I backed that down to stock speed like 4 months ago when Texas weather was getting really really hot. So I don't think it would be that.
