the Lian Li V2000B+ is NOT LARGE ENOUGH for the 1KW model.


I shit you not.


I now face one of 3 choices.

1. Sending the custom unit back.
2. Getting a new case that does fit the PSU
3. Giving up computing and give into an emotional breakdown.
 
At least you saved a bunch of money on your car insurance by switching to GEICO.

I'm thinking about removing the vertical panel that seperates the hdds from the PSU compartment. That's the only thing I can think of that will allow me to use the case...


and there aren't any other cases out there that will truly work for me...so I think that's what I'll HAVE to do.

Yep that beast is almost twice as long as the 510 Watt. Probably is two 510 watts bolted together inside. Heh :p

And yeah thats a bit surprising, given how HUGE the power supply bay is in that case. The PC P&C site says the 1 jiggawatt PSU will "fit most ATX cases".

You didn't measure your case to check for clearance before you bought it (9 inch depth)? Would be a waste to return it after getting it custom made. I have a Chenbro SR107 that fits my 850 one fine, same physical size.

Well, I think most cases aren't made with anything (HDDs in this case) directly across (or next to) from the PSU. You can always not use the top 2 5.25" bays if the PSU still doesn't fit. :p

I did. It should have fit, but that length did not include the extra space taken by the cables.

Are the PSU's airflow vents blocked form getting any intake?
 
Personally Marduk, what I'd do is hang the PSU partially out of the case. Would take a bit of work to get a decent solid mounting that way, but would leave you more space inside.

Actually thats a good idea... The PSU in the V series cases is attached to a removable plate that is screwed into the rear panel of the case itself.. You could use stand-offs instead of screws to mount the plate an inch or whatever away from the back of the case, to get some more room.
 
that psu if f'ing crazy man.. i cant imagine the light bill if you were pulling that much from it. :eek:

Interesting, I know one of my old Lian Li cases had that. I suppose you could probably find some rather sizeable stand-offs if you had to, and if necessary just daisy chain a bunch.
 
or, I could just not worry about it as the air that's coming out of the PSU is actually cooler than the exhaust air coming from my CPUs....

see there is one of the advantages of using a rackmount case, you could even add a few more inches to that supply and fit a ETX mobo :p

It's ashame you bought that case, it fits nicely in my Gigabyte Aurora case (a better case than the Lian Li IMHO).

If it's anything like the 850 SSI, it's more like 3 smaller units all working together.

Most ATX cases have the PSU on the top with only the CD drives in front and PCP&C clearly states on their site that it requires a minimum of 20"

The 20" number really is meant in reference to case length, and just a gross estimate.

The 1KW is 230mm long. That's 23cm. Divide by 2.54 gives you 9.06" roughly. Add an inch for stupid-minimum that's 10.1" of clearance you need forwards. If you don't want to starve for air, call it an even foot. I have quite a few cases that can handle that. They just can't handle the boards that require the 1KW, ironically.

But...the Aurora wouldn't hold my hdds...




Also....I think it's the same fan as the 510 Deluxe. I do know it makes less noise and moves less air than the 510 though. I guess my system doesn't put the same load on a 1KW on a 510....go figure ;)

I could introduce you to my friends Qlogic and Hitachi, but then you wouldn't need the 1KW. ;)

Actually, the 510's fan has been changed so they're the same. I checked a very early 510 (T51XE) and the part number is different, sadly forgot to write it down. The earlier 510's were, ahem, pretty damn loud under serious load. Like, say, a 10 disk 15KRPM RAID5 with a 2 disk 15KRPM RAID1, dual Opterons, 4GB, and two LSI Ultra320-1's.
They used to advertize that the 510XE could power any system and twelve hard drives, garaunteed. And those drives are on a 1 second-per 3 delay (3 drives spin up every second.)
I think we can safely say that the 1KW can power any system no matter what.
 
jesus christ thats a huge psu!! it looks like its making the bottom of your case warp down haha..nice rig though man, freakin a million hard drives! :p
 
I checked the original picture of my case...and it looks bowed. However, in reality, it does not look that way. I think it's just the way the picture was taken...
 
Do what I did,remove some of the hard drive cage that butts up against the PS

I'm guessing by all that dust that you have an 850?


Anyway....I can't remove hdds...as I plan on using at the very least all the bottom bays.

Why not use the two slots above and below your floppy drive as well as the top two slots in each bay?

Or you can simply leave it like it is.

The top and bottom slots for the hdds are open right now...but they will have hdds in them eventually.
