Im looking for a way to use my dish network remote to turn my htpc on or off. Doesnt need do anything crazy except hit the power button for me, anyone know of a way to do this?
Intel media series boards are the only ones I know of with an integrated IR header on board.
On the bright side, these are good quality motherboards, anyhow.
fits in a floppy slot and hardwires into the main cable from the power supply to the mother board.
It will switch on from power off ( in my mother board) if it was powered down from the remote
If on the other hand you turn the pc off from the mains and on again ( ie disrupt the power) it wont
The Antec basic can use any WMC remote and comes with customisable IMon software. that controls what the remote buttons do. Pretty neat I think in all.
I tend though to use Standby rather than "off"
It is quite cheap also. It is such a unique product I bought a spare. About 20 UK pounds
But it's overkill and I really just did it as an excuse to learn some basic electronics & Arduino programming. Easier is to get one of these: http://www.simerec.com/PCS-2.html
I find it really useful if you are the sort of person (like me) who doesn't like leaving PCs on, even in sleep mode.
