So I have a gaming rig, 3200+, Asus A7N8X Motherboard, 520w PSU.. I just moved and when I was unpacking I turned on the PC and it wouldnt start. When I turn the power on the fans start for a second or half a second but then turn off. The little green light on my motherboard is on, but nothing else works.

This has happened a few times to before (rarely) but i've fiddled with my box a bit and then it's turned on. Now I can't seem to turn it on.

It's entirely possible I have some wire unhooked or something.. maybe something is loose. Any ideas? What could be wrong?
 
Yeah possibly by moving something has just come undone. Perhaps disassemble most of it and to a little re-check, re-build and you may be alright. Certainly check the heatsink so forth. At the very least you'll eliminate loose connections/the seating of cards/cabling so forth...if the problem remains.

This happened to me when i tried to insert a temp probe into the socket. Try reseating your processor and seeing if that whole area is clean down there.
 
When you get that quick power on, then a sudden power off, it usually indicates that your system is detecting a prolem, and shuts down to protect itself. Connection checking is definitley what you need to do.

 
Alright so I am re-setting my processor...

I found something: The wire that was under my processor to monitor the temperature got ripped off, so it was just under the cpu not connected to anything. I removed the wire and I am putting the heatsink back on... I hope this works.

No luck.. i'll rebuild the whole thing tommorow. I'll give an update tommorow evening. Thanks for everyones help so far!
 
On some motherboards, if the temperature probe isn't working, then the motherboard thinks there is a malfunction and turns the sytem off.
 
I'm not sure where the probe was connected from, would it be from the mboard or from the cpu?
