Not sure where else to post this thread, so it's going here.

My PC (specs in sig) will overload my UPS when playing Dragon Age Origins in nvSurround mode. This also happened when messing around with nVidia's Aliens VS. Triangle demo in nvSurround mode as well. I have the resolution maxed out @ 6080X1200 for both the game and the demo. Game has maxed out visuals as well. I am able to play other games (Assassins Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood) with maxed visuals in nvSurround mode and maxed resolution with no problems.

My UPS is a CyberPower CP1350AVRLCD UPS - 1350VA/810W AVR. It is a few years old, and has never had problems until I tried this game and demo. As a test, I had nothing but my 3 monitors and my PC plugged into to my UPS and tried loading the game again. The UPS started alarming instantly due to overload. So, I know for sure my PC is using over 810 watts when under load from these games.

I realize that my two 580GTX cards will use a lot of power when gaming, but if my UPS rated at 810 watts is instantly overloaded when playing particular games in nvSurround mode, should I be worried about my Corsair AX850 PSU?

Earlier today I purchased a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD UPS 1500VA/900W from Amazon and am hoping the extra 90W buffer will enable me to play the game or demo utilizing my desired settings. Will find out on Wed when it shows up.

I am not sure what else to do other then not play these games using nvSurround mode. I do not want to plug my PC directly into the wall. Might blow up the house if I do that. The 900W CyberPower UPS was $191 and the next highest rated CyberPower UPS @1000W was $378. I don't really want to spend that much on a UPS for a single PC.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Here's my system specs for people with signatures turned off:

Intel i7-2600K @ 4.5 Ghz with Cooler Master Hyper 212+
ASUS Sabertooth P67 with 16 GB Corsair Vengeance and X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion
Intel X-25M 120GB SSD (OS), WD Black 6G 1TB & 1.5TB, Seagate 2.0TB (Games / Media)
eVGA COD Black Ops Edition 580 GTX and eVGA 580 GTX Superclock (SLI)
Logitech G510, G500, Z-2300, F710, C600 Peripherals and LG 10X Blu-ray Writer
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced Case with Corsair AX850 PSU
3 X Dell U2410 Monitors for NVSurround and Corsair HS1A Headset

The AX850 is around 87% efficient at full load, which means it can draw up to about 980W from the wall without being overloaded. You don't need to worry about that. However, it is entirely plausible that your PC could draw more than 900W from the wall at full load. The best course of action would be to get an inexpensive power meter such as a Kill-A-Watt, measure your power draw, and use that information to decide what capacity UPS to buy. The meter may not be accurate, but it will give you a good enough idea of where you're at.

I appreciate the info and suggestion Zero82z. I'll pick up a Kill-A-Watt to see where I'm at.

I'm not sure how accurate those Kill-a-watt meters are so don't take the results 100%

You also have your monitors on the UPS, which use anywhere from 20-50 watts each, depending on the model.

I know I'm up against my UPS capacity so I only keep the leftmost monitor on it...so I can see to shut down if the power is really out

I'm using 3 Dell U2410's. The monitors don't seem to use much wattage. According to Dell and a few CNet reviews, the monitors consume between 50 and 75 watts. I don't have my brightness jacked to the max on my monitors (I actually lowered the brightness by half it's default setting), so I'm betting mine are using closer to 50 watts max.

With just a browser open and all 3 monitors on, the CyberPower software is saying my UPS load is currently around 250 watts. I have my NetGear WNDR3700 Router and a 5 Port switch plugged into the UPS currently as well. I unplugged a monitor and the load seems to be unaffected. Obviously the UPS monitoring software is not 100% reliable.

Once my new UPS arrives, I will try the game and demo again with just the PC plugged into the new UPS and my monitors and other devices plugged into the old one. Hopefully the new one will have better results.
