Speaking at Black Hat DC 2007, the research director at NGS Software warned attendees that hackers could sneak malicious code onto any component in your PC that has memory space.

Malicious code delivered via the memory on hardware components poses a rootkit threat since it will run on the PC before the operating system loads, Heasman said. This likely will hide it from security software and other protection mechanisms, he added. Such low-level malicious code is known as a rootkit.

Great now I have to go out and buy antivirus software to scan my laptop battery, NIC, backplane, video card, sound card and just about ever other peice of hardware.
 
A. This proof of concept, and by the time there is a virus in the wild that affects this "leftover memory", a driver designed to fill the entire space will prevent this action.

B. as far as I know there is no (digital) memory in any battery's as of yet.

give sony time, they have already made rootkits and exploding batteries, it only a matter of time before they make a battery that can get a rootkit that causes it to explode.

Hell, they will probably make that rootkit their new DRM method. Play a copied CD your laptop explodes. :D

It exists.

You need a program to search all empty areas of bios chip. why does a motherboard need 4 mb rom chip when the bios itself is only 512k?
