Hey all you Hard, I am having a issue with my pc. A few weeks ago I noticed my pc would hang after post screen, for about 30 secs plus before seeing windows load screen. First thing I did was remove all my startup items, didn't do the trick. Well after a week, a new hard drive and fresh OS install seemed to have the hang cured.

Well it is back, 1 month later and I am lost for a solution. I searched the web, can't seem to find any relevant threads, or topics to guide me. I have not installed any new hardware or software, and my next step is to rma my motherboard unless anyone here can cure my symptoms.

The only clue I can give as of now is after the post screen, my case hd light stays solid during the hang. Could it be a faulty board?

Specs: AMD 7750be, gigabyte ma790gp-ud4h, 4 gig mushkin ddr2 1066, sapphire 3850, 3x 320 hd.

may just be loading data in or similar
when you say POST screen, do you mean the mobo logo screen, or the actual diag screen? are you getting any errors?

how about your PSU? (weird hangs/gremlins are sometimes indicative of bad PSU)

2x2GB or 4x1GB? Run memtest for at least 15 passes. If you get any errors, try lowering your RAM speed down to DDR2-800. Report results.

Did you try a new SATA cable?
How old are the HDDs?
When you transitioned to the new drive, and it was booting normally, were the other drives connected?
What mode is your SATA controller operating in?

And yes, as obobski mentioned, try another PSU if possible.
What model PSU do you have?

Ok well ty for all the replies and here it is.

Yes the post screen pops up, no errors, then I get about 30secs to 1 min of blank screen before I get the windows loader.

I have a Rosewill 550w performance series PSU. RP550-2
I have tried mem test, and even lowering mem speeds, and it is 2x2 GB
I have tried different cables, but will try a fresh one again to be sure.
Newest HD which is the one with my OS on it atm, is only a month old, the oldest hd is a year.
Yes after setting up new drive all was well until a few days ago, with both old hd's installed.

I am not running raid, and have smart enabled. As far as the mode I really have no idea other then I never changed it. But I am gonna shut down, try another sata cable and look to see what mode my sata controller is in.

I do not have an extra PSU on hand and I am not saying the PSU is not it, but why would it stop then start?

Update: Sata is in native IDE mode. I have two other options raid and AHCI mode.
And the other cable did not speed things up.

So I'm guessing memtest86+ passed with zero errors?

Actually I used a different mem test program, I am d/ling it now and will post results.

UPDATE: Scan complete 0 errors.

But now that I think of it, I have my HD's set to optimize for performance, and the power went out not to long ago while my PC was on. This is the only thing I can think of. Is that possible?
