PC freezes randomly

I currently have a PC where the mouse and keyboard stop responding randomly everyday or every other day mostly. Where I have to restart the PC by clicking on the restart switch on the PC.

What could be the problem please ?

Where do I begin to test ?
 
is the system completely locked up? are you able to hit the power button and have windows and the system shut down properly or is a reset the only solution?
also give us system specs if you can...
