My 3+ year old PC is dying, and I need to replace it....This will go in my Bedroom (to watch TV, etc at night) so the main requirement is that it needs to be QUIET and COOL. I plan on doing some OCing, but nothing huge. Also, i want to re-use some the parts from my old PC, like the video card, the Power supply, the DVD-drives, Case, etc.

the 420W version....

3) what heatsink/fan cooling should I do? or is watercooling the only alternative?
:confused: I looked at the swiftech Apex Ultra H20-220, but it doesn't support the LG-775 socket for Conroe....any ideas?

c'mon guys....help me out here :eek:

also, what is the best cooling option for me? which one is the quieter of them, and can fit in my current case?

either of the 3 will be good cooling.

I got the following:

Intel P4 2.6C @ 3.45Ghz , 1130fsb. --> to be replaced by e6400
Abit IS7 mobo. --> to be replaced by Asus P5B vanilla
1GB GEIL PC3200 (DDR400), 880fsb. --> to be replaced by Crucial Technology Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804 2GB kit DDR2-800 PC2-6400
Sapphire Radeon 9800np (flashed 9800pro Bios),@ 425/339
WD 80Gb HD, 8Mb cache --> to be replaced by dual WD 250GB SATAs
Lite On DVD-RW/CD-RW combo
Chieftec Server Case
OCZ 420W PSU

I plan on reusing the case + PSU, DVD drive, floppy, and use the 80GB HD as backup and restore current files to the SATA drives.

if it were me, i'd get a better psu.
I have that one, and I have an Andvil 470W PSU...

I'm gonna be running the following:
1 DVD-RW drive
1 floppy
2 SATA drives
mobo + CPU + fan
2 80mm fans for case

the video card doesn't need its own supply yet, as I dont have a super duper card.....YET.

Ok...ordered the Memory (Cruciall Ballistix) and the mobo (P5b deluxe....yeah, I know, I succumbed to pressure). Now I have to decide between the e6300 or e6400....is the $50 difference worth it?

I will order the Scythe infinity, some Artic Silver 5, some 80mm ultraquiet fans, and I should be good, right?

any recommendations between the e6300 or e6400? worth the price diff?

any recommendations on super quiet 80mm case fans?

I think you're gonna need to get a new videocard if you go with that upgrade.

That 9800 card is agp and any conroe mobo is gonna be pci-e so a totally new card will be needed.

Not to mention, though a 9800pro can still do well with some day to day stuff and even light gaming, if you're planning on oc'ing that conroe, even just a bit, seems like having such a relatively underpowered card would make it all kind of pointless.

Also, between the 3 hsf's, they'll all take care of cooling, but I've always been partial to Zalmans.

They focus on noise reduction and their customer service is very good in my dealings with them.

Yeah, I know the 9800pro is going to have to go....I have an ATI FireGL V3100 PCIe card. Not very good for gaming, but excellent AutoCad/Photoshop like applications. I will use it as a temporary solution until I see some really killer deals on a good NVidia 7900 or something.
