Hello,

Yesterday, when I tried to turn on my PC, it didn't boot. In fact, lights and fans run for a small fraction of a second and then turn off again. I repeated the operation, with same results. I've removed one by one all the components, but no success.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

have u installed or removed some hardware lately ? psu dead? a little specs would help

Hi,

Sorry, I forgot to include the obvious. I've not installed or removed anything. The system was normally shutdown and it just didn't want to boot the next day.

Not sure about the PSU. I don't have a multimeter here, but it starts for half a second and then something shuts it down.

It's a P4 3E on an Intel board (865GBF).

easiest way to test power supply....

on the main 20 (or 24pin) power connector, jump the green wire to any black wire. Make sure you have a load device plugged into a molex (a fan will work). Not the best way to test, but since you don't have a meter... give this a try.

Hello,

I did that and the PSU started and kept a 12v fan with no problems.

Later in the day, I reconnected the PSU to the mainboard and tried again, but this time the system did not turn off. However, it did not boot either. No video signal or even beeps.

Thanks.

Are you using on-board video or a card? If your using a card, I would suspect that it may be the problem. I recently dealt with a system that had the exact same symptoms as you are describing and it was a dead AGP card.

If you do have a video card, try reseating the card. Exact thing happened to me. I went through all the usual gyrations and finally on a whim pulled out the card and put it back in. Viola! Worth a shot.

Hello,

I have a card. I did the reseat card thing previously when I tried to remove all components excepting the CPU, but no success.
