PC Case: Which one?

Hi guys, Been on these forums for months now, finally registered up. :)

I haven't upgraded in around 2-3 years, but this Febuary I will be spending £1500 on my dream machine. But this machine needs a decent case. I Have come up with three cases.

NXZT Lexa
Antec Nine Hundred Unlimate Gaming Case
Cooler Master CM Stacker 830

Kinda gone off the Lexa. Loved it before, now it seems ugly.

I have looked at the Lian-Li and some others on the forums, but I Want something that looks good and is good. My favourite out of these cases is the Cooler Master. My machine that will be built will consist of a 750GB HD, 8800GTX, E6600 etc. So it really needs to fit into the machine and be upgradable in the future, which I think the Lexa cannot really do as it's a Mid Tower.

Any comments are highly appreciated. If you have any other good cases tolook at, please post, Thanks.

Whichever case can fit the 8800GTX.

Personally I'd go with the Antec 900.
 
how much are you willing to spend? If money is not an issue, I'd get a Lian Li. They look gorgeous, everything fits together well, and they keep things cool period

Well the Lian-Li is cheaper than the one I have chosen atm. ;)

Not keen on it though, it's ugly.
 
i am also looking for a case and i had to decide between the 900 and the stacker 830, and between those 2 i like the 830 better because it has much more room and a removable mobo tray, aswell as rATX if you like
 
what LL are you looking at? If you got the $$ to spend on a Stacker 830, I would also consider a Lian Li of comparable price, but thats just me :p

I prefer the Stacker 830 as well. The Antec 900 is ugly and feels kind of cheap to me. Plus there is NO room inside the damn thing compared to alot of other cases.

The Stacker 830 does ATX, E-ATX, and BTX. When the motherboard tray is reversed for BTX operation, you can mount ATX motherboard's upside down. (I think that's what you meant by rATX, which isn't even an official form factor.)

The main reason I like the Stacker 830 is due to it's superior cooling design. I've seen no case, Antec 900, Lian-Li or anything that can match the awesome power of 4 120mm fans blowing directly on your components. The Stacker 820, and STC-T01 are nice cases as well. Looks are always subjective, and I am looking at changing from the Stacker STC-T01 to a Lian-Li PCA10. Not sure if I will, but I've been thinking about a change for the hell of it. I've also considered the Stacker Evolution from NVIDIA. It's PSU mounts are different, and it will allow you to install larger PSU's than the normal 830 will.
 
ummm if you read some reviews the silverstone tj09 bests the stacker for cooling in most places like graphics card and cpu

I've never liked the look of most of the Silverstone cases. They aren't bad or anything, I just haven't been all that interested in them. So I haven't really gone looking at them in a lot of detail. Not really sure what the TJ09 looks like inside, but its hard to imagine it could best the Stacker 830 in that department.

how can the tj09 have better cooling if the stacker 830 has 9 120mm fans blowing on your stuff? (well really 4)

My thoughts exactly. The entire side panel of the Stacker 830 is moving air over your components, and then there is at least one or two 120mm fans up front depending on how many 3 for 4 drive modules you are using. (I've got a few of them). Plus, you have the fan on the top and on the back that could be used for exhaust. I really don't see how this configuration could be beat.
 
becuase theres a thing called they place thier fans i good postions it has 2 120mm blowholes one 120mm right in front of the graphics cards and has another 120mm in the hard drive cage too cool the hd

I wonder if there isn't bias there. Everyone seems to think Lian-Li is the holy grail of case makers, and I would bet that the appearance of the Lian-Li factors into alot of reviewers decisions about it vs. other cases.

Just looking at the two, I just can not see how the Stacker 830 wouldn't beat the Lian-Li or almost any other case for cooling.

I guess the Stacker 830 will be it. Although I will buying in Febuary, it should have dropped in price.

One thing which makes me laugh. The Nvidia case is cheaper than the normal case. It's £175 for the black case and $300 for the Nvidia. At the exchange rate it works out about £30 cheaper. And I hear shipping is free.
 
The reviews rate the cooling of the stocker by how it came stock, ie without the window full of fans...

Can't image what 9 fans in one case is like.

I have 6 right now on my OLD OLD case. It's noisy as hell. But thats because when I did my PC it was top end, fans where that noisy. But it has all changed now. Can't wait for febuary, I will surely post my build on here.

Stacker 830 seems to be the ultimate winner in every region. Looks amazing in black, cooling is amazing, what else can you ask for?

While stock testing is valid, you can't ignore how the Stacker would perform with all of the possible fans installed.

I've been planning on a Stacker Evolution, and 4x100CFM 120mm fans. Why? Because 120mm fans aren't that loud. Not evne the 100CFM ones I have now. Of course 80mm high output fans are too loud for my tastes.
 
honestly, i like the 900. my girlfriend on the other hand finds them all funny looking but likes the lexa best, if that helps at all.
 
Out of those cases, I'd definitely pick the Stacker. I like the 810 slightly more than the 830, but you can't go wrong with either. Plus, the 830's airflow is just insane.

Hell I have been drawn towards the 830 now. ONE THING WHICH IS WEIRD

The new Nvidia 830 is £150, the old black 830 is £170.

How come?

Not sure. If I had to guess I'd say it was because the NVIDIA version isn't selling. That's the one I want though because I believe it's been altered to allow the use of the PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR. The original Stacker 830 couldn't use it due to the way the power supply mounting hardware worked. (Though some dremel work could fix that of course.)

You mean the new case is better because it allows the use of a 1000W PSU?

The PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR is HUGE. It is not a normal sized ATX PSU. It is quite a bit larger. To give you an idea, the PC Power & Cooling 1Kw SR is nearly the size of two ATX PSU's joined together length wise. Very few enclosures will work with it. My PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 EPS12v unit is one inch longer than standard ATX power supplies. After measuring my power supply, I found that it would barely fit in the original Stacker 830 case.

So how come the Stacker 830 is SLi certified? Or is that the Nvidia one only?

I think that's just for the NVIDIA version. There is also a newer version of the Stacker 830 on Coolermaster's site. It may also have had the PSU area changed to allow the installation of power supplies that large.

Yes I have seen that one, the new fronted 830, Although I prefer the look of the old one, I think I will go for that one. The Nvidia case is terrible, looks horrible, maybe not on the site but in reallife, I will get a pic of it.

Yeah pretty impressive, I guess there is 2 8800GTX's hooked up inside the case.

One thing which I Cant wait for is the new R600. It will cause a drop in prices for the 8800GTX's, but also might be better than the current GPU's. But im not too fussed, a single 8800GTX can play Crysis in highest detail in decent FPS I have heard, and what more do you want?
