I am helping my younger brother build a pc, and I want to make sure I don't have any incompatibilities before I order everything...

Asus A7V600 VIA KT600 AGP DDR
AMD Athlon Xp 3200
512mb DDR PC2700
Seagate 120GB 7200RPM 8mb buffer hard drive
some cd/dvd drive
Radeon X800 Pro 256mb
RAIDMAX case model 668WBP
SB Live 5.1

Let me know if any problems come to mind, thanks!

Move him up socket 754 and buy him a Sempron. That's probably the best thing that you can do along with a memory upgrade to 3200. Socket A is basically dead from now on.

Get a Nforce 2 mobo, mobile XP, PC3200 memory, and a 6800GT instead. Sorry thats a lot, but its worth it.

Uhh.. Sempron is Socket A. Infact, Semprons are basically weaker XP's. I don't understand your thinking here.

Ok, not all Semprons are Socket A, but I don't see why you wouldn't get an XP with a 512 cache instead of a Sempron with 256?

cache makes little difference (3 ~ 5 percent difference in speed is diddly squat) and as for my choice, it is because it can then be upgrade to the Athlon 64 3700+ in the future.

nice setup would change x800 pro to 6800 ultra and sblive 5.1 to an audigy and 512 to 1024 but everything else is nice

Yes, the audigy does provide a much sound quality over the live and the difference is what, 20 bucks?

a socket 754 is a better future than a socket A, as your main choices are xp-mobile, so go with the amd64 and as for the video card, 6800 gt looks like the best deal in that price range :D

For that price, you'd be better off geting him an A64 3000+ and a nice, cheap board like the VNF3-250. I'd say at least an A64 2800+ though...
