Posting this for a friend. He's mainly concerned about which motherboard to get now-a-days. Anyways, thanks in advance.

1: What will you be doing with this PC: Gaming

2: What's your budget? $400-ish total

3: Which country do you live in: FL, USA

4: What exact parts do you need for that budget: CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K ; RAM - 8gig minimum, all
around good quality ram (stable, decent rate/timings) ; Motherboard - this is the part that I need
advice on.

5: If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing: Case - Antec 900, Video - GTX 560 ti, Hard
drives - WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1 and Samsung HD204UI

6: Will you be overclocking: yes, have a Corsair H80

7: What is the max resolution of your monitor: 19inch 1440x900

8: When do you plan on building/buying the PC: around March 12

9: What features do you need in a motherboard: USB 3.0, not sure of any other features

Come bump this topic the second week of March. What we recommend right now probably wont be the same recommendation next month since prices fluctuate so rapidly and new stuff/reviews are always coming out.

Hi, I am the friend looking to upgrade my pc. With the recent anandtech.com ivy bridge 3770K article, I feel now would be an opportune time to ask again about upgrading.

First, should I even wait for the IB? or would it be more logical to go with the 2500K now? Would there be a significant decrease in price for SB once the IB is released?

Here is a rundown list again to make it easier.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Strictly gaming
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$500+ (I am open to opinions)
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

There are rumors that Ivy Bridge may now be delayed until June. Are you willing to wait that long, or would you rather build something now?

What specific (brand/model) PSU do you have and how long have you had it for?

Is an overclocker-friendly Socket 1155 board simply all that you need, features-wise?

Out of curiosity, which version of Windows do you have? (e.g. Windows XP, Vista, or 7? Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate? 32- or 64-bit? OEM or Retail?)
 
I originally thought that the only delay was for only mobile processors. If it includes desktop ones then I would not want to wait until June.

The PSU is a BFG-800W, similar to this

The motherboard is what I am the most ignorant with and need help on (my apologies, I should of done some research.) Besides the SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0, eSATA and all the normal ports/connections, including onboard sound, excluding wifi; I don't know what the newer features are and what they provide.

And I have Windows 7 Professional Retail.
 
Pretty much the same build I posted earlier in this thread. Just add a Crucial M4 64GB to the list and you'll be set.

Just note that the mother board will not have an eSATA port on it. You'll have to spend a good bit more on a MB to get that connector.

PS
I don't trust that PSU. It's not really a bad PSU per se, but it's probably pretty old. I'd upgrade it if I were you. Just my $.02.
