I have a custom built Vista 64 PC and a MacBook.

They are both on a network of four computers. The Macbook can usually see every computer except for my windows one. My PC can see every computer, except the Mac - sometimes it can see it though.

I bought a Crossover Ethernet Cable to hook directly into the Macbook and the PC. The PC sees it as a private unnamed network, the Mac knows it's plugged into both ethernet and airport.

Why can't the computers see each other still? I need to transfer files constantly between the two computers.

If you're Macbook is running Leopard then go into the Network Preferences, click advanced, and then go to the WINS tab. There's a drop down for Workgroup. I've found that entering the specific workgroup name helps that issue.

Also, go into Sharing and set file sharing to use SMB sharing.
