Paying $50 dollars for simple program!

Hey guys!

Little background:

I work in a call center, and most of my team members notes are utterly horrible and or they do not do proper troubleshooting steps, so I have to tell them the same things over and over all day.

So, what I would like to create is a simple note taking tool with the following features:

1. Have an option to dump all of your notes into a predefined text document for backups, with dates etc etc

2. Have a list of pre-loaded template files, where the agent can select the type of issue they have, and have the program auto-populate the notes/steps to perform. Would need a simple interface to edit this data.

This doesn't have to be anything fancy at all, I've had something similar at another job, and it was just HTML with a little VB Script.

Basically, whatever you type in the name/imei/email field etc is automatically loaded above your notes in a simple set up such as

Customers Name:

CBN:

Email:

IMEI:

Issue:

Action:

Resolution:

Here is a quick mock-up of how I'd like the program to look:

Paying $50 dollars US via Paypal if you're capable of making such a program, I will need the source code as it will be reviewed my our IT dept for use within our systems!

PM or reply here please. :)

Why not a simple HTML/PHP/MySQL on an internal web server. Wouldn't be difficult at all. Instead of having a client application, it'd be based in a browser. Anyone could access it from whatever machine in the office... Make a single change, and it's done. Change the program and it's done. Rather than have to deploy it to multiple machines.

We have about 10 machines to put it on, not a big deal at all. We can put it into one shared drive, and everyone has access to it...so it's VERY easy to deploy. :)

Just need some help creating it, haha.

Thanks for your input!

Eh, I don't have the time to sit down and try to learn a programming language. Especially not just for 1 task, lol. :p

I did the rentacoder thing, looks really really involved. I'm really looking for a sloppy piece of shit program that will get the job done, haha.

But, I registered on their anyway...thanks for the tip!

goodluck getting some one to write that for you for $50 why wont the IT dept make it for you?

Meh, I should do it just to refresh my programming skills, but I doubt I will. It looks like a good practice exercise, anyway.

Yeah, I wondered why the IT department couldn't do it, LOL. Maybe no one there knows how to program, in which case... But my bet is that someone here will do it -- shoot, I probably would have thought about it a couple of years ago.

We're such a small team, that they have bigger and better things to do apparently. :-(

So, if I want this to happen...I am sort of on my own, lol.

I can do this, but not for $50, sorry. my hourly rate is $65/hr. I would do this in c# and provide code AFTER payment. 3-6 hours I would charge. Let me know.

That seems more in line with what I'd estimate/charge. $50 is someone who really needs the money or is doing it for fun, which is cool.

Gotcha, I can go as high as 75....I have no idea what the going rate for a simple program is these days, lol.

I would have to agree although I would use c++ personally. The program isn't so simple as a 50 dollar project. The only chance you got is a college student with more time than money. I happen to be one like that but im not quite in that bad of shape to do near free work. GL with your search

Actually, it's odd to see this thread because I visited rentacoder for the first time last night. Any project I had any interest in doing had a rediculously low maximum bid.

my thought is that I do enough work at work. If i am going to do more work for someone else in my own time, which i am not opposed to, it's got to be worth at least $40/hour (my personal decision) and $100 if the $40/hour i would estimate would be less than $100 when combined (since i think i would spend more time in thinking and designing than actual coding), and most of the buyers on there don't seem to be interested in actually BUYING software; they instead think there is a very cheap deal to be had... probably why so many projects end up being cancelled for one reason or another.

So you want some software custom made for your company to highly increase the productivity of 10 <paid>employees, yet you can only part with up to $75.

Have a think about how much time (time=money) you can potentially save here, then come back with a figure.

btw, my quote would be no lower than £500 WITHOUT the source code (source is 5 times more)

I'm just a poor tech support rep making 11 bucks an hour. This would be coming out of MY own pocket.

However, I found someone on rentacoder to take care of it the 50. He is even in the US, and speaks English as a first language, yippy! :-P

I think this is just how most people are in this field (businesses/business oriented people looking for software).

I've dealt with a quite a few people who are like "oh yeah this is so easy, just knock it out in the afternoon and I'll give you $200", meanwhile the job in reality would take over 100 hours to complete from start to finish and the person saying it's so easy can barely check their e-mail computer skills wise.

Non-programmers really don't understand the amount of work/effort it takes to properly design an application and then make it function exactly how it's been designed to function bug free.

Edit:

Would you mind keeping us updated on your coder's progress and showing us the end result (source code optional)? I wouldn't mind seeing the quality of work being provided for $50.

I agree ShoeLace.

I have no idea how long it would take, however the guy on rentacode gave me a 3 day ETA, and has already a provided me with a mockup version in less then 24 hours. I'm very impressed with the service thus far. :)

3 days is a bit slow but a general rule is to say an amount of time that's longer than it would take so when they show you the final result earlier you feel that you got more out of your money. That and sometimes crazy unexpected things do come up that might take an unknown amount of time to fix.

Someone else posted about 3-6 hours to do this and I would say about that amount of time too. The meat of the code is just processing an XML file.

Oh well.

I've accepted his bid, it goes to an escrow account and the payment does go to him UNTIL I authorize what he has done and it's working to my satisfaction..so, he's not getting anything until its done how I want it. :)

so you're going to pay him $50 for code, then release it to the masses? Rofl..k

I agree with ShoeLace. I would like to see the code that was acquired for $50:D Although, your two sentence requirements doc was a little light:D

Just making light, I hope it works out. It is good for a HS kid looking to learn somethin' for his programming class and make a few buck, to boot..

I would have done this for $50 if you wanted it in Java... :)

Me = poor college student

Small update.

Revision one of the program is complete, and its working exactly as intended. We're just finalizing the interface and some minor things currently.

I'm very satisfied!

Here it is folks!

Read the documentation in the DOC folder!

My 50 dollar program that is probably the best 50 dollars I have EVER spent.

The code who made it for me on rentacoder.com was the nicest and easiest to work with person in the world. He gave me constant updates on the progress of the application and had excellent communication skills.

From my perspective, he did a fantastic job!

Congrats!

Surprised to see how greedy people can be... 500 pounds for this? And yet people wonder why jobs are being outsourced to India... heh.

Before anyone replies with "Well, you should do it" , I am a hobbyist coder and could've easily created this application within an hour

someone will always do it cheaper :)

programming has gotten easier and easier for people to learn

damnit, I could've used the $50, and done it in a few hours, in C++, Java, or VB

some of you guys are ridiculous, 500 pounds LOL!
