Pausing in HL2, possible overheating Vid Card?

So, I've really been enjoying the half-life 2 experience so far, but I think that its overheating my videocard. I'm assuming that's whats happening anyhow. Every now and then I'll be running around the game, and I'll get a hard-lock where the music cuts out, everything stops moving, and the computer won't respond. It'll do this for about 10 seconds then come back to life.

I have roughly 6 case fans, the two in front taking air in, two in back being exhaust, one on the side of the case over the CPU which is also exhaust, and an exhaust on the top of the case.

My question is, is there anyway I can stop the card from overheating like that without having to do any major (and more importantly expensive) modifications to it. I'd rather not have to mod the card at all if I didn't have to.

My card is an eVGA GeForce 6800 GT 256MB
(the card is not overclocked)
Also have an Athlong 64 3200+
MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo
1 Gig PC3200 RAM
Hitachi 250GB Sata HD

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
