Got about 1/4 through then gave up... So he doesn't know about computers. Who cares? You don't know about economics but I don't call you an idiot.

As far as the average goes, he probably isn't computer stupid either. He's probably just average. He doesn't suck with computers, he may suck by your standard, but that is hardly the ultimate judge. According to society he is probably reasonably proficient.

As for Dell-bashing... well, as far as I know, Dell uses Intel processors, MSI motherboards, ATi or NVIDIA videocards, WD harddisks, Logitech keyboards and mice... and probably more parts that are considered good quality, and are preferred by many people building their own systems (including yourself, judging by the specs in your signature).
So saying Dell parts suck... that's rather pathetic is it not?
In fact, Dell cases are designed better than most cases... they are silent, have fine cooling for even the most high-end hardware available today, and they come with decent PSUs too.

Which is all fine and dandy for the person who treats their computer like a black box. Anyone who is a semi-enthusiast shuns pre-built systems as they are greatly limited in upgradability. The last time I worked on a Dell, you could not mount a standard motherboard as the Dell's used a tab-slot design rather than traditional post mounts. The wiring for the front panel also would not connect to a standard motherboard with resoldering and re-wiring. Add to that the fact that nearly all their computers use a micro-ATX motherboard that will not come will all of the same options you can get from the OEM equivilent.
Nearly all Dell/Compaq/HP/eMachine/Gateway etc bashing comes from poor service and/or lack of flexibility in the overall design. That's why a boxed setup from them is goign to be cheaper than a custom built until you hit the $1000 range.

I tend to agree...if the poll had relevance to specific hardware rather that determining if the person was an idiot it would remain. and btw, the majority of members hate to read IM convos, especially long ones.
