So I am moving my boxen to a single room soon and want to get a setup where I only need one mouse, keyboard and monitor. I do not want to have to plug them directly into each boxen when I am troubleshooting them so I am in need of some sort of patch panel. I'm thinking I will need two patch panels.
USB patch panel. Ideally I'd like to use one USB cable from the boxen to the patch panel with 2 ports per boxen. So it sort of "Y" splits at the panel. This way I only need one USB cable to go from the patch panel to the boxen, but have two ports for the USB and Mouse.
DVI and/or VGA patch panel. Here it's a bit tricky. All but two of my setups can use VGA. One of DVD-D and I can't use a normal DVI-I > VGA adapter on them without buying the expensive active adapters. So I am thinking of having a VGA patch panel for the boxen that can use VGA and a DVI patch panel for the boxen that are DVI only.
I want to mount this on a table near where I will have everything setup. Ideally I'd like to have at least 16 ports on each (32 for the USB)
I'm not worried about having any kind of built in switch electrical or manual as I am okay with plugging them into the desired port when necessary. I feel having a built in switch would just add to the cost.
