PATA to SATA Adapter

I order this adapter as a add on when I ordered my Dell monitor. Will this increase my current harddrive speed from 133-150. If not, what advantages does this have? Anyone recommend buying a controller card? I heard a controller card is much faster than going thru the motherboard. Would I notice a speed difference?
 
Just because the bandwidth of the bus is increased doesn't mean that your hard drive will run any faster. Modern ATA drives don't break 70mb/s in sustained transfers, and while some can burst past 133mb/s, bursts are mostly irrelevent. As for a controller card vs on-board, on-board will rarely be slower. It depends on the layout of the board in question, find the block diagram and we could tell you, but there are two ways SATA is implemented on motherboards. Either it is attached to the PCI bus, just like a controller card would be. Or, it could be nativly handled by the southbridge. If the southbridge has a faster connection to the northbridge than 133mb/s, it could be faster than a PCI card. But that's all just hypothetical talk. The performance differences people see more likely related to differences in the SATA chipsets than the bus they are connected to.
The only advantage of using one of those adapters is it it easier to cable. That's it
