Password Protect Documents

Wondering how to password protect documents in windows XP home, or if theres a way to password it with program......

ive also herd of using a thumb drive to "lock" documents?

any and all help will be greatly accepted and wanted :)

Just encrypt the file. gpg, or pgp would be nearly uncrackable. GPG is free, but I don't know if there is a windows version. I know it runs fine in linux though.
 
PGP has a freeware version but you only get complete use for 30 days and then it doesn't auto encrypt email and IMs. Food for thought: http://www.pgp.com
Also from the looks of GPGs website GPG is still just linux/unix.
