I am using IIS for hosting media and what not and I just saved a .jpg in this directory called

www.carlwill.com/linux

Its the pic of the rack. I have zero understaing of why it prompts for a user id and password to access this file when no other file in any other dir requires one.

None of the above give me any problem and I like this feature to host personal info but would like to know why this happens and how to control this.

Thanks for any info.

I don't understand what is wrong with the second post?

It's a question of if posting a link to downloadable MP3 (even a small number) is illegal. If you don't have permission to do so, it would be. So it's safer to just link us to the images (as you have done) to show us what's working.

I'm still trying to figure out why only one file in one directory is passworded....

I can tell you that the login for the hosting machine I am on works to view the file but why in the heck it is asking for it, I have no idea. I would like to know how to host password protected files like I am doing now but this would not be one of them.

Yes, if you or anyone can tell me why that one image is prompting for a password in IIS and everything else is not, please let me know.

Closest I can find is this:

Q. How can I password-protect a folder in IIS 6.0?

A. Follow these steps to require users to provide a valid Windows user name and password to access a folder in IIS 6.0:

1. In IIS Manager, navigate to the folder that you want to password-protect, right-click the folder, and then click Properties.

2. On the Directory Security tab, under Authentication Options, click Edit.

3. Clear the Allow Anonymous Authentication check box.

4. Select and configure one or more of the other authentication options.

You can also configure password protection for individual files within the folder.

So maybe the option to password the single file is on?
