Passthrough to VM in cluster?

Is it possible to pass through a device to a VM that's in a cluster? If so, how? I set the devices up for passthrough on the hosts, but when attempting to add them to a VM, I get "PCI Device (unavailable)" with the following information:

This device cannot be added to this Virtual Machine because:

There are no devices reserved for PCI passthrough on the host.

I'm assuming it's because the VMs are being created on the datacenter instead of the host, but I can't see a way to work around that.
 
Looks like I have to use the client to connect to the ESXi host, not the vCenter Server in order to use passthrough.
 
Keep in mind this will also lock the VM to the host and prevent vMotion.

Disable any HA/VM Monitoring if enabled on this specific VM.

I figured that it would. The device I'm passing through is the onboard SATA controller. Can't afford a new NAS unit just yet!
