is there any cooler that will allow me to run a phenom II 940 passively in a p180 mini case with the fans on high? i also would like to know if there is no passive solution, what is the smallest cooler that can take a med late yoon and keep it cool. there is no ocing of this system, its for my older brother :)
 
a TRUE would.. but the stock fans actually pretty quiet if you turn cool 'n quiet on..

also something like the zalman 9500-9900 w/ the fan set on silent mode is dead silent.. there are also a few other heatsink out there where you can replace the stock fans with some low rpm low noise fans and you would never hear them in the p180..
 
If you're going to turn the case fans on high, you may as well just put a fan on the heatsink...
 
i wanted a passive becuase that would mean that with the fans on high it would still get good airflow but when he leaves it on overnight in his bedroom he could turn down the fans and sleep. with quiet fans that might work, it just needs to be quiet enough that my older brother can sleep with it on and so far the loudest thing is the cpu fan, with the 280 i can put the fan on 25% but yea quite is important :)
 
I think it would make far more sense for you to just go with a silent heatsink and fan combination like sirmonkey suggested.
 
Do what I did, I put the rear 120mm fan on my TRUE blowing upwards, and run that on low along with the top 200mm fan on low, temps never go above mid 50's under load and its very quiet.

One thing to keep in mind is that I don't have a gpu that puts out alot of heat (8800gs)
 
the heat from the video card seems to keep to itself, i dont think that its as contained as the 8800's were but it doesnt seem to leek out into the case, mostly just gets dumped out the back as far as i can tell
